Dear Member The year 2008 was a very difficult year. Many golf clubs were faced with deficits and had raised their subscriptions, some as early as in Year 2007. Increases were in the range of $10 to $30 per month. Some clubs, in addition, had imposed a monthly minimum spending quantum. We, at Raffles Country Club, were faced with similar problems. However, we decided to delay increasing subscriptions by introducing cost cutting measures and increasing income through green fees.
The current economic conditions have taken a toll on the Club’s income. Our projections for the next three years indicate that the Club will incur deficits of $100,000, $1,099,000 and $784,000 respectively. To continue increasing cost cutting measures and increasing green fee collection will compromise our quality and service of our facilities plus further reduce the capacity of tee-time for members. Our Club currently is one of the clubs with a lower number of members per hole (72 compared to 110 for some clubs) and we intend to keep it this way. This translates to members being able to obtain a tee-time much easier. In addition to the above measures, the General Committee had looked into many other ways to increase income, but such sources of income are insufficient to cover the Club’s expenditure requirements. The General Committee thus decided to raise subscription by $20.00 (from S$120 to S$140) per month commencing 1st February 2009. It should also be noted that we have not adjusted our monthly subscription since 1996 and the above increase will bring our Club’s monthly subscription to be still slightly lower than other similar golf clubs (36 holes) in Singapore. In appreciation of members’ understanding, the General Committee has decided to give each member one complimentary green fee for weekday play (except public holidays) in each quarter of 2009. Details of this are as follows: COMPLIMENTARY GREEN FEE (WEEKDAYS, EXCEPT PUBLIC HOLIDAYS) Each member is entitled to one complimentary green fee (18 holes) on weekdays, except public holidays, per calendar quarter in Year 2009. The entitlement is not transferable. To enjoy this privilege, the member must accompany the guest he introduces. This cannot be used to offset green fees incurred in a private tournament. No voucher will be issued and the green fee must be charged to the member’s account. The Club will credit the member’s account with the highest weekday green fee incurred for any guest he introduces during each qualifying quarter. The member’s account will be credited at the end of the qualifying quarter. The Club reserves the right to impose other conditions when necessary.
